On-Court Rules
- Tennis shoes must be worn.
- Sports clothing must be worn.
- Four (4) players per court is the maximum allowable and spectators must be outside the fencing.
- Chewing gum must not be deposited on the court surface, nor the nets, net posts or fencing.
- Nets must not be over tensioned and must be wound down at the conclusion of play.
- A mandatory ball fee will be levied on all participants on club nights and mornings.
The committee reserves the right to invoke clause II(4) of the constitution if any member or visitor is in contravention of any of these on-court rules.
The Constitution
- Description
- Name… The Club shall be called the Bredon Lawn Tennis Club.
- Objects… The Club shall have as its objects the provision of lawn tennis, social and other facilities for its members, together with the promotion of lawn tennis for the benefit of the community.
- Constitution… The Club is a non-profit making, unincorporated members’ club, which shall be governed by this Constitution.
- Dissolution… On dissolution of the club, the assets must only be used for local sporting or charitable purposes. i.e. the assets must be given or transferred to another CASC, a registered charity or the Sports Governing Body.
- Membership
- Qualification for Membership… Any person shall be eligible for full membership provided that they are sixteen years of age or over. Children below the age of sixteen may be elected as junior members without the right to vote or hold office.
- Conditions of Membership…2.1Each member of the Club agrees as a condition of membership:
- to be bound by and subject to the Rules and Regulations of the Club (as in force from time to time);
- to be bound by and subject to the Rules and the Disciplinary Code (as in force from time to time) of the Lawn Tennis Association and its subsidiaries or such successor entity or entities as become(s) the governing body of the game of lawn tennis from time to time (the LTA CLG).
- Subscriptions… All annual subscriptions shall be payable on or after the date of the Annual General Meeting. If subscriptions are not paid by April 30th then the late payment rate will apply.
- Number of Members… In the event of the membership being in excess of a number ensuring the comfort and convenience of existing members, the committee shall have the power to restrict membership until such times as extended facilities are available.
- Suspension or Expulsion… The committee shall have the power to terminate or suspend the membership of any member, or to exclude any member or visitor whom it considers guilty of a breach of this Constitution or the On-Court Rules or of misconduct or offensive behaviour to any other member, visitor or employee, whether on the Club’s premises or elsewhere.
The member has the right of appeal. This must be made in writing to the secretary giving the grounds for the appeal within 14 days of the expulsion or suspension. It will be considered by the committee within 14 days of receipt, and the decision made after due consideration of the written details presented. - Visitors… Every member shall have the right to introduce visitors subject to such regulations as shall be made from time to time by the committee. Every visitor shall be the guest of, and be accompanied by, the member introducing him or her.
- Committee
- Committee… The entire management of the Club (except as otherwise provided by this Constitution) shall be deputed to a committee consisting of the three elected officers (Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer) and not less than six other members.
- Quorum… A quorum shall consist of five committee members.
- Election of Committee… At the Annual General Meeting members of the committee shall retire, but shall be eligible for re-election. Any two members of the Club may propose any other candidate or candidates at such times and the proposal shall be put to the meeting. A majority vote shall decide. In the case of two candidates receiving the same number of votes the proposal shall be put to the meeting for a second time and in the event of a tie, the chairman shall have a second or casting vote.
In the event of a vacancy on the committee, the committee shall have the power to elect any members of the Club to fill such a vacancy. The committee shall also have the power to co-opt additional members should the need arise. - Sub-Committee… The Committee may from time to time appoint a sub-committee, which shall conduct its business in accordance with the direction of the committee.
- Committee’s Powers… The committee shall from time to time make, repeal, and amend all such regulations (not inconsistent with this Constitution) as they shall think expedient for the internal management, use of courts and well being of the Club. All such regulations shall be binding upon members until repealed by the committee, or set aside by a resolution of a General Meeting of the Club.
The committee shall have the power to make arrangements for holding matches, tournaments, or other like competitions, including the imposition of a charge for the admission of non-members to the grounds, to provide cups and other prizes, and to reserve courts as may be required.
- General Meetings
- Annual General Meeting… The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Club shall be held prior to the 1st May in each year upon a date and at a time to be fixed by the committee, for the following purposes.
- To receive from the committee a report, balance sheet and statement of account for the preceding year, and details of the income and expenditure expected during the current financial year.
- To elect the officers and committee, and appoint one auditor for the ensuing year.
- To fix the annual subscriptions.
- To decide upon any resolution which may be duly submitted to the meeting.
- Special General Meeting… The Chairman and/or committee may at times for any special purpose call a Special General Meeting (SGM), and they shall do so forthwith upon the requisition in writing of any ten members stating the purpose for which the meeting is required.
- Notice… Ten days at least before the AGM or any SGM, a printed or written notice of such meeting and of the business to be transacted thereat shall be sent to every member.
- Chair and Voting… At General Meetings of the Club the Chairman, and in his/her absence a member of the committee, shall take the chair. Every member present entitled to vote shall have one vote upon every motion, and in the case of an equality of votes, the chairman shall have a second or casting vote.
- Annual General Meeting… The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Club shall be held prior to the 1st May in each year upon a date and at a time to be fixed by the committee, for the following purposes.
- Finance
- Trustees… The trustees of the Club shall be the elected officers of the Club.
- Financial Year… The financial year of the Club shall end on March 31st each year, to which day the accounts of the year shall be balanced.
- Loans… The committee has the authority to borrow monies up to the value of £12000 to assist with the financing of capital projects provided that it is a unanimous decision of the committee. Any loan in excess of this must be approved by members at an AGM or SGM.
- Surplus Funds… All surplus income or profits are re-invested in the club. No surpluses or assets will be distributed to members or third parties.
- Payment of Members… No member, except for services rendered at the request of the committee, shall receive any profit or emolument from the funds of the Club.
- Other
- Power to Vary the Constitution… This Constitution may only be amended by resolution at a General Meeting of the Club. No such resolution shall be deemed to have been passed unless it be carried by a majority of at least two thirds of the members voting thereon.
- Coaches and players… The Club agrees that all unlicensed and unresigered coaches and, so far as reasonably practicable, players and other persons using the facilities of the Club will be required, as a condition of such use, to agree to be bound by and subject to these rules, the Rules and the Disciplinary Code of the LTA CLG, such agreement to contain an express acknowledgement that the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 applies and that the LTA CLG and the Club can enforce any breach at its option and in its sole discretion.
